Our first presentation in the Spring series is on Thursday\, February 27\, 2020\, featuring Dr Anne Gallspool. ‘The Impact of Climate Change on Bermuda’ \nConsider the vulnerability of all small islands and how they may effect strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on their economic\, social and physical well-being and how these relate to Bermuda. \nLocation: Bermuda College\, Room H100 in Hallett Hall. \n\nBEST and the Bermuda College are committed to providing a forum for learning; with knowledge comes empowerment. In each of the presentations we invite the community to learn more about global and local issues while discussing individual and collective solution-based actions that can be taken. \nThe second series promises to be filled with important and interesting information that will inspire and encourage ongoing discussion on Bermuda’s environmental issues. DESCRIPTION:For those who are interested in learning to make Beeswax wraps\, we are pleased to offer a workshop with Allie Krefta and Rosalind Wingate & the WA Natural History Club! \nThis workshop will be held on Sunday\, February 16 at 2 pm and can accommodate 18 members. Since this workshop is on the same weekend following our general meeting and there are a limited number of spaces\, members should sign up by sending an email to sheilasemos@gmail.com asap to book their space. Please use ‘NHC – Beeswax wrap workshop” in the subject. Payment of $30 must be made in cash on Friday\, February 14 before the meeting starts. \nIf you would like a little tour of the Natural History club gardens\, composting center and natives plant nursery\, that your workshop fees will be helping to support\, please arrive at 1:30pm so that our Natural History Club members can show you around. The workshop will begin at 2pm sharp. \nWhat to bring: \nEverything needed will be available but if you have them you can bring: \n\nPinking shears – needed for cutting the fabric so that it doesn’t fray – there are a few pairs but some are not very sharp and can be frustrating to work with. Also\, they must be shared. Please bring your own pair for your own use at the workshop if you can.\nAn extra-large metal baking tray – if you have one.\nFabrics – There will be plenty of choices available but if you have your own fabrics that you are partial to using\, feel free to bring them along. The fabric you bring needs to be 100% cotton and as lightweight as possible – think of the sort of fabric men’s’ dress shirts are made of. In fact\, second-hand men’s dress shirts from the thrift shops\, are where we are sourcing much of our fabric options – or worn cotton bedsheets. Wash the fabric on a hot sanitizing setting in advance of the class.\n\nYou should also think about what sizes you want your wraps to be. For example\, to cover bowls – you should measure the bowls before coming. If you want to wrap sandwiches – practice with a piece of scrap paper to see what size works for you. \nMaximum size of the wraps is limited only by the size of the baking tray on which they need to bake. They cannot hang over the sides. The trays at WA are on the small side and there are only 2 large trays\, so please bring an extra-large baking tray if you have one. \nWhere to go: \nEnter the Warwick Academy Primary Car Park off middle road (take note of arrows which are confusing to the uninitiated). Drive through the car park and up the hill. Park in the area indicated with the red circle. Walk down the slope towards the Science block (dotted red line).
