FEBRUARY in the Garden. While February is cool, it’s time to get rid of those pesky weeds. There is no substitute for digging weeds by hand! Many herbicides which will kill broad leafed weeds also cause cancer and must be avoided. They have been banned in the UK, Europe and Canada as they contain the carcinogenic compounds such as atrazine and glyphosate. Weeding by hand is easier after the rain but avoid compressing the wet soil. As your garden grows and the plants fill in they will slowly crowd out the weeds. A totally weed-free garden is a myth!
